Welcome back!

G14: Grossboll/Skived AIF – GBC Lerum 4-2

In the third final of the day Grossbol/Skived played FBC Lerum. The girls, that are just 14 years old, already from the beginning showed up a very mature play. At the beginning the match was going back and forth when both teams had players sent off the field. After six minutes FBC Lerum took the lead with 1-0 through no. 10 Elin Lundblad.  But in minute twelve FBC Lerum had another player sent off, which let Grossbol/Skived back into the match. Right before half time the effort from the Grossboll/Skived players gave result when they equalized to 1-1 through no. 10 Ebba Hultin.

In the other half it was Grossboll/Skived that went out the strongest. But it would take until minute eight before they went ahead in the match. This time it was no. 20, Matilda Eriksson, that scored. When Grossbol/Skived seven minutes later increased the lead it was once again Matilda Eriksson that was the scorer. And close thereafter no. 11 in Grossbol/Skived, Johanna Ek, scored 4-1. At the end of the match FBC Lerum fought their way back, but eventhough Elin Lundblad scored her second goal and reduced to 4-2, Lerum didn’t manage to get back into the match that ended 4-2 to Grossbol/Skived.  

We hereby congratulate Grossbol/Skived AIF to the victory in category Girls 14.

B14: IFK Arboga IBK – Marstrands IBK 2-2, 5-4 after penalties

The last final of the day in Valhalla offered an even match where Arboga finally were named champions.

In the middle of the first half Marstrand took the lead in the match. Marstrand also was the leading team through this half.

Arboga opened the second half strongly and searching for an equalizing goal. This came after a really nice direct shot from no. 55, Niklas Elofsson. But Marstrand right after retook the lead in the match when no. 6 Linus Swan scored 2-1. Marstrand was the stronger team and managed to keep the ball within the team, which generated a good pressure on the opponent. The Arboga breakaways were threatening though and in the 13 match minute came the equalizing score. It was no. 45, Rickhard Stork, that finished a nice attack after a nice pass from behind the goal cage. Arboga worked their way back into the match and evened it out also in the playing. ‘Even’ was the common word for the finals in Valhalla this day and also this match was had to be decided by penalty shot. Finally it was Arboga that stood as chanpions.

B13: Rönnby SK – Fagerhult Habo IB, 4-5 (4-4) after penalties

The final in the Boys 13 category was even and exciting. Both teams played a nice and entertaining floorball.

The first half was seven minutes old when the Rönnby captain no. 71, Adam Rydert, after a free shot scored the first goal in the match. But the equalizer wasn’t long in coming. After 9.34 no. 8, Alexander Pernsteiner, equalized the Rönnby lead and just couple of minutes later Fagerhult showed to be the leading team on the field when no. 11, Tobias Westin nicely scored for Fagerhult. After this Rönnby once again took over the leading roll and started hunting an equalizing goal. But the first half didn’t bring any more scoring. 

At the beginning of the second half no. 53, Elias Pedrazzi equalized when alone with the goal keeper, but no. 10 in Fagerhult, Filip Wiklund, the minute after scored 3-2. This lead is increased after 4 minutes by no. 16 Emil Nilsén on a freeshot. This showed to be a match with several successful free shots. Rönnby quickly reduced on a free shot through no. 76 Simon Wesslund. After this Rönnby searched an equalizing goal but had to wait for it. With only two seconds to go no. 76 Simon Wesslund managed to put the equalizing goal behind the Fagerhult goalkeeper. The match had to be decided by penalty shots where Fagerhult finally stood as winners.

B12: Öjaby Sport 1 – Stenungsund IBK 4-3 after penalties (3-3)

Valhalla’s first final in the boys category was decided by an exciting penalty decisive where Öjaby were the lucky ones. 

The match was even until Öjaby started the scoring after 6.38 in the first half when no. 10, Lukas Sjökvist scored 1-0. After the one goal down Stenungsund became the more leading team but Öjaby put up a good defense and simply let Stenungsund play their way. Finally, after a breakaway, at the end of the first half, came the goal from Stenungsund. No. 16, Karl Jyborn took a direct shot and equalized after a nice pass from the team mate no. 8 Rasmus Andersson. An even first half ended 1-1.

In the second half Stenungsund was the leading team and when five minutes had passed the score was 3-1. 2-1 is made by no. 8 Rasmus Andersson as he alertly took a return and nicely rounded the goal keeper and scored. 3-1 was made by no. 16, Karl Jyborn, after a breakaway where he and his team mate no. 7, Joel Tell, cooperated. Öjaby tried to find their way back into the match and they did, after 15 minutes, when no. 8, Emil Jendefors scored the reducing goal. After this Öjaby put pressure on the opponent and aimed for an equalizing goal. This would come with only 3 minutes to go. It was no. 9, Fabian Blixt, who from a position behind the goal cage got the ball in front of the cage and the ball somehow found its way behind the Stenungsund goal keeper. 

The match was decided by penalty shots where both goal keepers showed up a really good play. The first goal didn’t come until after the sixth penalty turn and it was no. 2, Simon Ericsson, that managed to dupe the Stenungsund goal keeper.

G12: IK Stanstad – Älvsjö AIK 5-3 after penalties (2-2)

Finals day in Valhalla hardly began before Älvsjö AIK had taken the lead against NS Stanstad in the girls 12 final. This was when no. 11, Oliva Dog Ersmark, in an attack found her team mate No. 9, Elisha Eriksson, that with a direct shot started the scoring. After this initial cold shower for Stanstad, the playing in the match evened out though, and both goalies showed up a really good play. Älvsjö then took hold of the match and scored two goals, but both were disallowed due to high stick and kicking. The first period was an even fight between two teams where the goalies kept the numbers down.

Second period’s opening looked a lot like the first, with both teams creating goal chances. After nine minutes Älvsjö increased their lead to 2-0 by No. 11 Oliva Dog Ersmark, that scored on the return after a shot from No. 9, Elisha Eriksson. Approximately two minutes later Stanstad ran up when No. 7, Elaine Larsson, fired a high shot reducing the score to 2-1. After the goal the tension was high and Älvsjö got an opportunity where the ball rolled along the goal line but wouldn’t go in. Instead Stanstad initiated an attack and as the ball was about to find it’s  way into the goal cage is suddenly got swept away of an Älvsjö player. The judge extended two hands in the air indicating for penalty shot. The talanted Älvsjö goalkeeper Michelle Helenius saved though. Shortly thereafter Stanstad got a golden chance to equalize in a power play and took it. 2-2 was made, also this time, by No. 7 Elaine Larsson, through a long shot that found its way past both players and the Älvsjö goalkeeper . The match ended a draw and had to be decided by penalty shots. Stanstad was the more focused team and could finally, after a tough start, lift this day’s first trophy in Valhalla Center .

The Gothia Cup congratulates NS Stanstad to their victory and thanks all the teams and leaders for this year’s tournament. Welcome back!

B16: Marin Väst IF – Carlshamns IBK 85 3-2 (0-0)

The last final in Lisebergshallen was a tight affair between two tactically skilled teams. Marin Väset had most of the ball while Carlshamn were ready to counter-attack. Carlshamn defended well and were actually the team with the best opportunity but the ball hit the bar. An even period ended without goals.

In the second period Carlshamn started best. They created a couple of chances and scored 1-0 in the fourth minute through a slap shoot. The goal opened up the game and two minutes later Marin Väst equalized before Carlshamn regained the lead in the seventh minute. Thus Marin Väst shortly after equalized once again, gained an advantage and scorded 3-2 in the 15th minute. Carlshamn had several opportunities to equalize and got for example a goal rightfully disallowed. Thereby Marin Väst won the title after an even and well-played game.

Four intense days packed with pacy and entertaining floorball has now ended. After a thrilling final day 12 teams can appoint themselves as champions of Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012.

Elected as this year’s best floorball club was SSK Future from Czech Republic. They have now won two years in a row!

Next year’s tournament will be played between 3-6 january.

B15: SSK Future (CZE) – FBS Bohemians DDM Praha 7 (CZE) 4-4, 7-6 after penalties (3-3)

The game started in a furious tempo as both teams played offensive. In the second minute Future took the lead after a fast shoot. In the same manner Bohemians equalized in the seventh minute as a pass was followed by a direct shoot. Boheminas thereafter gain the advantage and took the lead after a great passing game. Future also showed the audience some skill in their passing game and scored the equalizer. With only eightteen seconds left Future regained the lead after an individual effort, but right before the end of the period Bohemians managed to equalize once more.

The second period continued with technical play and goals from both teams. After a couple of minutes Bohemians scored 4-3 but shortly after Future once again scored the equalizer. Thereafter few chances were created as both teams wanted to avoid costly mistakes, and an extraordinary entertaining and even game had to be settled with penalties.

In the penalty shoot-out Future were the better team and won the title.

G18: Olofströms IBK – Hjärnarps IBK 2-1 (1-0)

The game began tentative and had few good scoring opportunities until Olofström took the lead after five minutes. After the goal Olofström dominated and was able to push Hjärnarp down, and created several chances to score but without results. Hjärnarp found it difficult to disturb Olofström despite an improvment after the goal. Thus Olofström won the period fair and maybe they should have scored another goal.

Olofström continued to push back Hjärnarp in the second period and could extend their lead in the fourth minute. They used movement and quickness in their passing game and did it well. But Hjärnarp came back and managed to score a reducer in the eighth minute after showing great spirit. Hjärnarp didn’t come closer than that and Olofström won the title and was overall the better team.

G16: Örlogsstadens IBK – Hovshaga AIF 1-4 (1-2)

Hovshaga started the game best, kept most of the ball and scored both one and two goals before Örlogsstaden reduced in the 14th minute. Thereafter an even period between two good teams who viewed tactical skill. The first period ended  with a slight lead to Hovshaga but Örlogsstaden wasn’t far from the equalizer.

The second period continued in the first’s manner with a strong beginning by Hovshaga, who extend their lead after almost four minutes. Thanks to a penalty Örlogsstaden could build up a pressure, thus it was Hovshaga who scored another goal in the tenth minute. Thereafter Hovshaga regained the commando and despite that Örlogsstaden did a good game, Hovshaga was righteous winnners.

B18: Hovslätts IK – Malmö FBC 1 2-2, 3-6 after penalties (0-1)

Two well-playing and seemingly equal teams battled for the title in the B18 final. Both teams created opportunities but didn’t get the finish they wished for. Yo could tell that a lot was at stake since both teams rather played safe than sorry. Hovslätt had most possesion but i the last minute of the first period Malmö got a counter-attack and scored the first goal.

In the second period Malmö extended their lead after two minutes before the game continued in the safe manner of the first period. Hovslätt reduced after eight minutes and created a real thriller. With only two minutes left Hovslätt equalized, and as it should be when two equally good teams meet a penalty shoot-out had to separate them.

In the penalty shoot-out Malmö were best and won the title.

G15: Mariebergs SK – Kärra IBK 3-7 (2-2)

Kärra began the game furiously and put up a high tempo. But Marieberg worked hard and could score the first goal in the fifth minute. Thus, Kärra scored the equalizer right after face-off and now the game was packed with action. 2-1 was scored about one minute later and in the tenth minute Kärra once again scored the equalizer. In the 13th minute the first penalty was given Kärra, who despite outnumbered closed down the players in Marieberg impressively and could prevent Marieberg’s power play. The first period ended 2-2 where Kärra had the pressure but Marieberg used their chances exemplary.

The second period started with action and before the first minute had gone Kärra scored three goals. Thereafter tha audience had to wait until the 13th minute until the next goal was scored, once again by Kärra and a few minutes later they extend their lead to 7-2. Marieberg reduced one goal but had to accept the defeat. Kärra won fairly after a great second period where especially their high pressure was entertaining.

Most valuable player: Maja Göthberg, Kärra.

With the intensity Gothia Innebandy Cup creates sometimes injuries occur. Then it is good to know that there are paramedics on place to take care of the wounded.

Jimmy Broberg has worked with Gothia Innebandy Cup for four years and is familiar with the most common floorball injuries.
– The most frequent injury is sprains. It uses to be mildly and rarely more serious injuries, like fractures, happen.
During the tournament’s first two days it usually is calm for Jimmy but as the tournament continues, the more players get injured.
– It hasn’t been stressful so far. During the finals there will be more injuries as the players are tired and a lot is at stake.

Despite that Jimmy primarly meet injured people he likes the atmosphere and think it is a pleasant environment to work in.
– People are happy. Above all it’s fun to meet people from other countries with another culture.
With one day left, and a growing importance and tiredness, we hope that Jimmy further has calm days as a paramedic.

How many times have you been a referee in Gothia Innebandy Cup? I have been a referee for 14 years but only 2 years in Gothia Cup.
What’s the most fun with the tournament? It’s fun to be a referee for other teams than usual, both from Sweden and abroad. Especially the older classes where the tempo is high and a lot of action all the time.

How many times have you participated in Gothia Innebandy Cup? This is my first year at Gothia Innebandy Cup but I’ve been working with Gothia football for five years.
What’s the most fun with the tournament? It’s nice to meet new people, particulary from other cultures which you especially do during the football tournament. Also, it’s a nice break form the ”hamster wheel”, the ordinary life. To work with Gothia is very different compared to a regular job.
What’s your best memory from Gothia? We have a very pleasant gathering with the leaders one evening where we invite all the team leaders living at our school. It’s a good way to connect with the leaders, we don’t do that the same way during the football tournament.

How many times have you participated in Gothia Innebandy Cup? This is my fourth year.

What’s the most fun with the tournament? I’m injured this year so for me it’s just nice to be free from school and spend time with the boys.

What’s your best memory from Gothia? The semi-final against Helsingborg in 2010, we played the final in th A play-offs. We were two goals down but with one minute left we equalized and won at the penalty shoot-out.

How has it gone this year? It has gone well, we’re through to the play-offs.

After two days packed with games the participating teams has been divided into A respectively B play-offs. The intensity has now been raised to a higher level before the winner will be decided tomorrow. Follow the action on our site and contribute with elevating comments! May the best team win!

– It’s fantastic and is a proof of our visitors appreciation. We have more than eight times many visitors this year compared to last year, Niclas Andersson, marketing director at Gothia Innebandy Cup, says.

A closer look at the statistics shows that it’s constantly more than 1 000 visitors on the website and that almost half of the visits come from abroad. Also, tens of thousands of people follow the results by downloaded apps for Android and iPhone.
– It was a little bit surprising that we have so many international visitors, but it tells us that the service mostly is used by players, leaders and parents who couldn’t be here during the tournament.

More news is that everyone with a smartphone can broadcast the games live with the Bambuser app.
– We’ve broadcasted some games, but also there are several leaders and parents who used the new opportunity to broadcast games live on the web. I believe that more will broadcast games the closer the finals we’ll come.
Despite the high traffic on the website the server has worked without problems to our amusement.

Linköping IBK is the largest floorball club in the world and in Gothia Innebandy Cup the club is represented by three teams; two in B11 and one in G12. One of the teams in B11, Linköping IBK 2, has so far scored the most goals in the entire tournament and team leader Ola Rosell is pleased with their performances
– We’re satisfied with the behavior on the field. They played as we instructed and as we’ve practiced, and then the results come our way.
They defeated Horten Innebandyklubb with 24-0 in their first game, a new record as they have “only” won with 22-0 in league games.
– We’re trying to develop them individually. We’re practicing on our passing game and the players change positions with each other.

Yesterday Pixbo Wallenstam IBK defeated Linköping IBK in Superligan, a game played after the opening ceremony. Today Linköping could get their revenge as their G12 team met Pixbo in Group 3.
– Haha, the rivalry doesn’t go as deep down but it was unfortunate we lost again (2-1). We played well but so did Pixbo, Mike Helber says, team leader for Linköpings G12 and with merits from Linköping HC in Sweden’s highest hockey league which has inspired his training:
– Perhaps we practice more hockey than floorball. We work with handling the stick; dribble, shoot and so forth to develop them as players.
Mike likes it here in Gothenburg and at Gothia Innebandy Cup:
– It’s a fantastic atmosphere here. Several teams in the same dressing room, all games, the intensity, it’s great to be here!

Gothia Innebandy Cup’s opening ceremony attracted 10 111 spectators to Scandinavium. It is a new attendance record for Swedish floorball in league games. – It feels great to finally reach our dream with an audience over 10 000 people, says Lena Rönnefors, tournament director.

The all time record was set in the play offs during the final game between AIK and Warbergs IC, which 14 656 people attended in 2005.
– That number will be hard to break since Scandinavium only has around 12 000 seats, but who knows what will happen in the future? It is planned for a new multi-arena in Gothenburg with a bigger capacity than Scandinavium, so maybe it isn’t possible. It would have been fantastic, Lena Rönnefors says.

When Jecko left the scene Karin, from Switzerland, offered an acrobatic show of high class followed by Hannes Magnusson performing the classic song ”Stand by me”. In the middle of the song the tournament’s fair play-vision was declared on each participating nation’s native language. The opening ceremony ended with an if possible even more powerful dance number, before two teams from the men’s top division in Sweden entertained the audience.

Pixbo Wallenstam IBK played this game too but met Linköping IBK this time. A thrilling game ended 7-6 to Pixbo after sudden death, but the most astonishing was the attendance of 10 111 people. That’s a record in league games and we at Gothia Cup want to thank each and everyone of you for participation in creating history!

The new trophy here! It has a completely unique design and is made in the Gothia Innebandy Cup traditional colors, black and red.

On January 8 we will have twelve new champions. They will then become the first teams to lift the new trophy.

The two ”wings” in red and black of Plexiglass stands on a solid black wooden plate. The ”wings” extend around a floorball and together they form a unique trophy.

At 10 am the first games started and the tournament is up and running! 445 teams from 5 nations will battle for the desirable trophy. Floorball will be played at 24 fields spread at 19 playing areas during the tournament. All together 1135 games will be played in 13 different classes.

At Gothia Valhalla Center there are lots of activities to enjoy between the games. You can play Nintendo Wii, play sumo football, make a facial painting or relax with some snacks. Come here to participate in the action and meet lots of new people – welcome!

The Scanian club FBC Engelholm is the club that has the most teams participating in the Gothia Innebandy Cup on 5 January 2012. Their twelve teams, eight boys’ and four girls’ teams  are represented in seven age groups. Thus, the club the biggest club represented in the world’s largest floorball tournament 2012.

- FBC Engelholm has participated in the tournament for over ten years and they often come with many teams. It’s very funny and it proves that we are able to offer four intense and exciting days that managers and players do appreciate, says Lena Rönnefors, tournament director Gothia Innebandy Cup.

Niklas Lamberth is team manager for a large squad with 28 girls from FBC Engelholm, and they participate with two teams in the G14 class. He isn’t surprised that the club is the largest in the 2012 edition of the tournament.

- Gothenburg is on a comfortable distance from Ängelholm and for us it is the perfect cup with stay overnight. A four days long tournament is perfect time to encourage the team spirit really well.Gothia Cup is not just about sporting results, but is as much a social experience for the girls both on and off the field. But it’s always fun to play against new teams that we haven’t played before, especially international opponents, for instance from Norway, Denmark or the Czech Republic.

Last time the club was in a final in the Gothia Innebandy Cup (then known as IBC Engelholm) was in 2008, when the B12 team lost the final against Hovshaga AIF with 4-1. The club also reached the final in 2006 in the B15 class where they lost 3-2 against NS SödraDal.

Prior to the tournament 2012, the girls in the FBC Engelholm G14-squad are full of expectations.

- The girls go to the tournament with an evident goal to reach all the way through and win. For these girls it is a fully feasible goal. I believe that several of the players in this squad will be great seniors players one day and they have a great commitment and focus on floorball, says Niklas Lamberth.

Gothia Innebandy Cup will be played in Gothenburg on 5-8 January 2012 in various age groups between 11-18 years for boys and between 12 to 18 years for girls.

Gothia Innebandy Cup is the world’s largest and most international floorball tournament for youth and is being played every year in Gothenburg. Gothia Innebandy Cup was held for the first time in 1994 and in 2012 about 10 000 players from 500 different teams participates. Best club in 2011 was SSK Future from the Czech Republic. Since the start, teams from 13 different nations have participated in the Gothia Innebandy Cup.

The Gothia Innebandy Show is a colourful action-packed opening of the tournament. 12 000 people will gather in Scandinavium and experience singing, dancing, acrobatics and audience activities. Last year we were at Götaplatsen, as Scandinavium wasn’t available, but this year we are back in the big arena, Scandinavium.

Before the show starts a match in the women’s Super League will be played between Pixbo Wallenstam IBK and Örebro SK IBK.

When the show is over and your heart rate is high the Super League match between Pixbo Wallenstam IBK and the Linköping IBK will be played. We look forward to a thrilling battle and a new attendance success in Scandinavium. The last time an attendance record was set in the Swedish Super League there were 8.922 spectators. This time we hope for a new record.

For the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012 we will inaugurate a new arena. The arena is to be found close to the centrally located school Katrinelundsgymnasiet. The arena was finished in February 2011 and we are more than proud of it as it gives great possibilities to play more matches in the center of Gothenburg. It is also close to Gothia Valhalla Center where the central information as well as the bus center are located.

The arena is top modern and has all the equipment required. It will be possible also to buy food and beverage in connection to the arena.

In 2011 the tournament was invaded by Czeck Republic teams. A total of 33 teams from the czech Republic came to Gothenburg to participate in the Gothia Innebandy Cyp. The Czech club SSK Future did not only bring three gold medals back to home, but also the prize as ”Best club of the year”.

The Czech invasion continues this year. For the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012 a total of 34 teams from the Czech Republic are registered. The biggest club  is the  FBS Bohemians with as many as 10 teams registered.

In early November the Gothia Innebandy Cup visited the Czech Republic and its capital Prague. After Sweden and Norway the Czech Republic is the third-largest nation represented at the Gothia Innebandy Cup, and it is a hockey nation that is growing rapidly.

The purpose of the trip was to visit some of the clubs participating in the Gothia Innebandy Cup and to benefit from their home ground activities.

We visited the club Sparta Praha that is on of the Czech Republic’s largest hockey clubs. Four teams from the association will participate in the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012 and they are already preparing for the trip. It is important to practice technical as well as tactical skills. However, the primary objective for the club is always to let the players have a funny and exciting experience.

We would like to thank you for hosting us and we wish all teams from the Czech Republic welcome to Sweden and the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012.

We are pleased that Gothenburg has got another sports arena. Sjumilahallen was recently inaugurated, on 29 October, and is the newest indoor sports arena in Gothenburg. The building measures over 3000 sqm and there is room for 300 people on the grandstands. Of course we, the Gothia Innebandy Cup, are very happy and grateful now that we are able to offer an ultra-modern sports arena to our participants.

We hope that you get the chance to play a match in Sjumilahallen.

We believe it is important to create a big, long-lasting memory of the tournament. This is a unique occasion when everyone is included and can feel the fellowship. The Gothia Innebandy Show is a colorful and action-filled opening of the tournament. 12 000 people gather in Scandinavium to enjoy singing, dancing, acrobatics and other activities. Last year, when Scandinavium wasn’t available, we were at Götaplatsen, but this year we are back in the big arena.

The evening starts with a Swedish Women League match between Pixbo Wallenstam IBK and Örebro SK IBK, followed by the show. After the show, when your heart rate is on top, the Swedish Super League match between Pixbo Wallenstam IBK and Linköping IBK will be played. We look forward to a thrilling battle and a new audience success in Scandinavium. The former audience record for a match in the Swedish Super League is 8.922 spectators. This year we hope for a new record.

All participants have free admission to the match.

Never before so many teams have been registered at this time ahead of tournament. The floorball season has not even started but the interest of the Gothia Innebandy Cup is glowing hot.

Until today (7 September) 115 teams have registered for the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012. Other years this number of registered teams hasn’t been reached until early October. With this basis we look forward to another year with around 450 teams.

The registration is now open to all teams. Please note that the category C (own accommodation) usually fills up rapidly and it will soon  be fully booked.

Oloftsröms IBK, B13

The guys were very satisfied and enjoyed the tournament and are already looking forward to next year’s edition, says their coach Markku Torikka. They have decided to save themselves from any other tournament during the year just to be able to take part in Gothia Innebandy Cup.

The team went all the way to quarter finals where they lost against Lindome IBK. The boys at Olofström are quite successful in their local league as they have won their category in the series.

Among their expectations for next year is that they hope to encounter more teams from abroad! We want to wish all players and leaders from Olofströms IBK welcome to Gothemburg and Gothia Innebandy Cup 2012!

Maria Hagelqvist at Gothia IB Cup is satisfied with Valhalla

The big news this year was Gothia Valhalla Centre, which has become a huge success.

 - There have been many participants and visitors who have visited the center, it’s great fun, says Maria Hagelqvist at Gothia Innebandy Cup.

The idea of the new activity center in Valhalla was to create a meeting place for participants with fun activities. Sumo-soccer, music recording, model photography and Nintendo Wii are some of them.

New this year is also the participation of Ukraine. SC Spartak B11 fights hard in the tournament but unfortunately they have, so far, lost their matches. But the joy in the team is great and they hope to come back with even more teams next year.

Right now it is playoffs all around Gothenburg and so it goes on until late tonight. In the evening there is also Club Gothia in Gårda, something you should not miss, 7-12 pm.

Tomorrow starts the last finals matches at. 8 am. The finals kicks off at. 11 am.

You can hear the music in Gårda, very close to Gothia Valhalla Center. Outside the disco groups of people are approaching and inside Club Gothia the dance floor is swinging on Friday evening.

The disco is for you and all participants with Gothia Card have free entrance.

After a snowy start, the sun shines over the tournament. A perfect day for a ride in Göteborgshjulet!

It is easy to get to the city’s most beautiful view. A walk or tram to Brunnsparken and you cannot miss it. For all participants with Gothia Card it is half the price, so you have to take the opportunity. Enjoy the beautiful view over Gothenburg!

Maybe the first match didn´t go as they planed. The result was 25-1. But the team struggled throughout the whole playing time and afterwards, there were no sad faces.

- It was a good training , says there coach Olexandr Bakanychev who also is the president of the Ukraine Floorball Federation.

The country has a total of 25 registered floorball clubs. The General Secretary of the federation Titian Kulbaka, who also is the mother of one of the players, hopes that more Ukrainian people will become interested in the sport.

- I love the speed, that it´s a team sport and that it is not as dangerous as hockey.

Ukraine has never before participated in the tournament. And it was for long uncertain if they would make their way to Sweden. Visa trouble was on of the reasons, and according to Titian the airline tickets were very expensive. They could only afford six players in total. Therefore, they had no substitutes.

The opponents in todays game FBC Engelholm was almost three times more players and it was shown on the outcome. Although SC Spartak fought hard, they didn´t have a chance.

- We know it is impossible for us to win here. But we always say that you only have to do your best. If you lose, it’s a good experience and you will have to be strong especially as a loser.

The snow keeps falling in Gothenburg. Several of the Gothia-buses have become, and will be, delayed. We have also had some teams who have been late to matches.

These weather conditions will continue throughout the day and we hope that you have patience with all that it may lead to. However, we have the goal that all matches will be played as scheduled and if changes are made you will hear from us.

Today, Thursday, at 19:30 we will open this year’s tournament at Götaplatsen.

The Opening show includes music, singing, dancing and of course the official opening of the tournament. The show ends with a gorgeous firework.

Join together with all participants as we together begin their journey towards medals, and do not forget to dress warmly!

SC Spartak B11

Now it’s confirmed that five nations will participate in this year’s tournament. Belgium, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden and Ukraine. If the later would be abel to come to Sweden was uncertain. The main problem was the visa issue. But now we can happely inform you that all the players in SC Spartak B11 are at school where they will accommodat in Gothenburg.

We will return to the team later on and follow their stay here, welcome!

The snow falls quietly on the buses outside Kålltorp School. But if you open the door you are greeted by laughter and conversations in a, for us Swedes, foreign language. 450 Czech players and coaches have arrived to Gothenburg.

Classroom doors are open and although the noise level, many people are sleeping. As early as four o’clock in the morning the large group arrived after sitting on a bus for nearly 17 hours.
Amidst all sit Jiri Jakoubeck with piles of Gothia Card and counting. It is he who is the coordinator for all teams.
- I have been going on since four this morning, he says a bit tired but with joy in his voice.
This is his big hobby he says. A hobby that led to a trip that could be crucial for the players’ development.
- It is very important for our players to come here. It’s the country that gave birth to floorball.
But also in the Czech Republic’s floorball is a popular sport. Jiri says that it is rated in third place after football and hockey.
- Many people start with hockey, but it is too expensive and then they start playing floorball. It is a cheap sport.

He is aware that the competition in the Gothia innebandy cup is great but thinks that FBS Bohemians B14, which won last year in B13, has a good chance of winning this year as well.
Jiri also urge everyone to keep an eye on FBS Bohemian B16 who has some really strong players.

A beautiful winter welcome all participants arriving to Gothenburg today. And outside the windows of our halls and schools the snow falls like a white curtain. It is wonderful but we urge you to take it easy on the roads and want to prepare you for some delays in public transport.

Gold and silver medals 2011

Receiving a medal is one of the greatest things you can experience as a young player. There are about 250 players that go back home with a Golden one. Through the years more than 4000 youngsters have been able to receive the title Champions of the Gothia Innebandy Cup.

The medals that are distributed after the finals have been of the same design since the start in 1994 , but for 2011 the medals have gotten a whole new look. ”We are happy to present a very unique medal” says tournament director Lena Rönnefors. ” These medals will be a lifetime memory for the owners and symbol of the pride for the great individual and team accomplishments”. Winning the Gothia Innebandy Cup is a difficult challenge and the champions should feel great pride. This is what we hope these medals will mediate.

On sunday January 9th at about 12.00 hrs the first new medals will be given to finalists at Liseberg hall and Valhalla Sport hall.

The store Earphones will be  at Gothia Valhalla Center presenting some of the products of the very popular earphone brand Skullcandy. You can join them and be part of many fun activities and contests.

2011 will be a Czech year for Gothia Innebandy Cup, not less than 37 teams will represent the Czech Republic. We will receive a delegation of more than 400 players, coaches and supporters. This is by far the largest group of traveling floor ball players from Czech Republic.

Why did you choose to participate in Gothia Innebandy cup 2011?
We participated in the turnament last year and we liked it. We played many very good matches and this helped us when we got home in our local series.

What do you expect of the tournament and Gothenburg as a host city?
I expect comptetitive matches. Swedish floorball style is stronger, more aggressive and faster then ours. From Gothenburg we expect a more friendly weather then last year..

How big is the sport Floorball in Czech Republic?
It is the fastest growing sport in Czech republic. Czech floorball has about 60 000 registered players and still increasing. It is the 4th biggest sport after football, ice hockey and tennis but the second biggest sport practiced at school-level and thius is good for the future

Have you ever played any floorball tournamnets abroad before Gothia Innebandy cup?
Our club FbŠ Bohemians has participated in senior tournaments in Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Slovenia… A small group of enthusiasts were in Lithuania and Turkey. Kids regularly attend to tournaments in Slovakia and France.

How does the future looks for floorball in Czech Republic?
I believe that floorball has a bright future in our country. Thousands of children are playing more and more every weekend, sports halls are filled of floorball players every day until late evening hours. Finding an available field in Prague in a weekend is almost impossible.

What memories do you hope to take with you from your visit in Gothenburg?
I hope that all members of our group takes on the atmosphere of Swedish floorball. Feeling that floorball can be a professional sport in our country, it helps to our players to self-improvement.

What is your goals for the cup and what positions will you end at?
Last year we won B14 category and we were 3rd in B18. This year we have a very strong team of B16 so we would like to win.

It all started in late 2008 with a group of home schooled kids and with the help of my Swedish friend whom was doing outreach work in one of the poor communities in Quezon City. At that time I was the football coach and the following year, we started contacting the IFF (International Floorball Federation) to see if they could help us develop the sport of floorball here in the Philippines. The IFF has helped us by sending us the necesary floorball equipment to get started intruducing the sport to our youngsters.

Earlier this year, Mr Klaus Koskela of the IFF’s referees commission, paid a visit to some of his friends here in the Phillipines on his way to the Asia-Oceania Floorball Confederation (AOFC) competition in Singapore. When we learned about his visit, we asked him if he could give us a hand. He then held a two-day seminar containing skill training, coaching, refering and admisnistration. After his visit we started the process of building our own national floorball federation and becoming members of the IFF.

Today, we have 4 groups of approximately 20 players each practicing floorball regularly in an organized form, and there are more interested in our clinics and demostrations. Next week we will have our first ever ”Floorball Fiesta” tournament where all these 4 groups will participate. Their ages range from 10-20 years.

Floorball is brand new sport here in Phillipines and the lack of proper equipment and floorball education among coaches is a major problem as most of the coaches come from a different sport background. Fortunately the AOFC offered their help to improve the floorball culture in our country and we are very happy about this.

Gothia Innebandy Cup is really glad and proud to announce that 23 teams from Czech republic have registered to participate our forthcoming tournament. The chances of even more teams from this nation registering is quite good, and who knows, maybe Czech Republic will be the second largest nation represented in Gothia Innebandy Cup, instead of Norway.

-We won the Cup with Borås, 1999? At least we beat a team from Finland with 2-1 in the final, I scored.

-Do you remember were you stayed and how it was?
-No, but it was always a laugh and full speed ahead!

-We know that The Gothia goldmedal is at top in your collection but have you won any less important prizes such as World cup or Euro cup?
-Yes, I´ve won World Cup and Swedish league a couple of times.

When did you start your floorball career and what make you take this decision?
-I begun when I was 10 yrs old and soon figured that this was my thing.

-Can you give 3 advices to players wishing success in their sport.
- Dare, have fun and put in effort

-What is the most fun with floorball?
-The speed and lots of goals.

What makes a good coach?
-That he or she has his or her own idea but still listening and give responsibility to the players.

-Of course, I still play with some of them.

-I never went to the disco, strange enough…

-I have good shot and there is lots of practice behind it.

-Kimmo, today you signed a contract with FC Barcelona, how does that feel?
-Feels great, thanks for asking!

1988 floor ball got its own section within the Norwegian Bandy (outdoor) association. 1991 it became officially a sport with its own association.

Norway´s best placement in the World Cup is a 3rd place (Ladies) and a 5th (mens), Norway is up and coming so beware! Sveiva is one of the largest clubs in Norway and a recurring club at Gothia Innebandy Cup since 1998, best placement is a silvermedal 2010 (B16).

The club started 1994 in Oslo (Capitalcity of Norway) and they have 1 national gold medal in each category, elite-men and elite-women.

What has been the most fun with Gothia Innebandy Cup?
-Must be the silver medal 2010 (B16) and all the supportive parents and siblings that are with us. We participated with 6 teams and 16 leaders and at least 50-60 relatives.

How popular is floor ball where you live?
-Floor ball is still a growing sport in Oslo, where we live. There are a few clubs in the area of Groruddalen but we are the biggest and we have also managed to win the Norwegian Elite series both in the mens and women division. In April this year (2010) we won NM Gold in G17 and G19, silver in G15 and Elite women.

You got 2 gold and 1 silver in the tournament, what will you do to keep up with that success?
-To get that far again we have to work on all levels, leaders in the touth teams and the important support of the parents plus matches against the best teams in Norway, we would gladly see a collaboration with Swedish teams in ways of friendly matches because Sweden is a little bit ahead in floor ball.

Do you have a special memory from Gothia Innebandy Cup, apart from the silver medal?
It must be in 2010 when Ingrid Gosh from Sveiva  read the Gothia Fairplay Oath in front of thousands of spectators on the behalf of Norway.

Have Sveiva produced any national team players?
-4 ladies and 4 men have been or are national team players, Kristine Larsen, Silja Solem, Kristine Dalen, Hanne Aaslie, Andreas Sletten, Glenn Hauger, Håvard Pedersen and Martin Hansen. and a lot of players in the youth national teams.

Do you have any advice to teams at GIC for their staying in Gothenburg?
Choose school accommodation, it’s a great way to build a team spirit between leaders and players. Its also good if the club´s matches (all ages) are put on in the same hall, that helps the club- spirit and also the excitement around the game.

How many players do you have in Sveiva and what do you do to make it even bigger?
-300 players and still growing. We recruit youngsters from schools and the first week of the summer holiday we have a “open hall” where youngster can come and try playing with our leaders, free of charge. We wish to thank you for the interview and we´ll come next year with 7 teams!

The first club is Täby IS- and their Girls -95 team. Claes Leander, team leader, tells us about the club’s history and future plans.

Täby IS IBF is a part of Täby IS. TBF started for about 10 years ago and has grown rapidily. We have almost 1000 members and 200 leaders. We are the biggest user of indoorcourts in Täby. The principles are easy. We start with small teams in our region with games and fun, at the same time we add floor ball to the activities and move forward with knowledge and intensity. We work with the whole spectra in the age groups, both elite and not as “serious”. We also encourage collaboration between age groups just to avoid teams playing “on their own”. Our values are based on respect for others, Fair Play and that the elder and our leaders act as role models. Just like in many regions, there is a decrease in indoor courts, floor ball is expanding!

That’s why it’s very pleasing that Täby community is supportive and has plans for new courts and some will be finished in autumn 2010. With a club in good economical condition and we see a bright future!

-You seem to be a successful club especially on the girl’s league, tell us more
We put equal effort into both the girls and boys –section. The most success the girls have achieved is putting our young team in the Swedish elite series. Below them, talents are rising by winning the “inofficial Swedish Champinship”, the girls G95, G94 and the G93’s won a silver medal in Swedish Youth Cup. The G93´s even plays in the second elite-division were they will continue growing.

We are also trying to put together and establish a men’s team built upon our skillful B94´s. Meanwhile new groups of tomorrow’s players are just starting.

-Tell us about something “unusual” about your team of G95´s?
There is one thing that may sound strange, but we have had a mental coach for these girls since they were 11 years old. I think that for girls especially in that age is important to think: “-We Dare, We Can and We Are good”. On one of these occasions a girl found out our moto: “We shall always be high on life”, I think that says it all.

-What is the most fun about GIC?
To get away, sleep over and spend time with your teammates. It’s extra fun to meet other teams off the court as well. GIC is a well-arranged event with many service-minded volunteers.

-How popular is floor ball in Täby?
-Floor ball is equal to football, there are 4 clubs in the region and Täby has teams in both of the top series.

-When will you win Gothia IB Cup?
It would be great to win next winter but we have many of the players on vacation during Christmas. For us Gothia is mainly a cup that we travel to for the great fun, but of course a gold medal would be nice…

-Do you have a special memory from GIC?
In the evening after the first round of games the girls went to the Gothia disco which was by the way, the main topic of conversation on the bus to Gothenburg. When we got there we met our quarterfinal contenders (Färjestaden, they later won the whole cup), we lost the match (on the court) but later we would beat them in the Swedish championship final. We had a tough group 2010, later this year we met exactly the same teams in the same order but this time we won the whole thing. I believe Gothia was a perfect warm up.

-Has Täby produced any national team players?
-We are a young club but as we speak 2 of our young girls are sent to their debut in the national team, finally!

-Any tips to new teams attending the GIC?
-Our girls think its important to stay together and they prefer to stay at schools, even if the leaders would appreciate a hotel. Our team sets goals before every tournament, both sporting and social. We discuss how to balance these two. Of course it’s nice to win but not at any cost. It’s important to let everyone be part of the team, you shouldn’t forget the adventure and everything around it even off the court. Finally the girls perform “the banana dance” and this works both for the audience and as fuel to the girls.

Gothia Innebandy Cup is one of the world’s best Floor ball tournaments. It is through constant updates and development we will always be a tournament looking ahead. Our old logotype has been with us since 1994 and it was about time to get face lift.

We are now proud to present to you our new logotype. A modern symbol that will perhaps give a clear and uniform image of us.

We would like to thank Färjestadens IBF for the victory as well as IBK Göteborg for a very well played tournament.

The period moves on with the same intensity. Both goalkeepers are playing outstanding and the score is 1-1 when the first half has ended. After the break Pixbo W swops goalkeeper Michaela Karlsson instead of a fantastic Maja Sundblad. The second half opening is not so intense but soon they find the spirit again, the goalkeeper is still playing a key role. 1-1 is standing and penalties are a fact. In the penalty shooting the goal keepers are still standing strong and sudden death penalties made the winning team: Pixbo Wallenstam 3-2.

We would like to thank Pixbo wallenstam for the victory as well as CL98IC for a very well played tournament.

The first boy-final in Valhalla was between Höllviken-Marstrand IBK.

First goal in match starts with a perfect save and a fast trow by Martin Sjöberg goalkeeper in Marstrand , Linus Swan then makes the finnish, 1-0. Höllviken make their way into the game by hard work and the first half ends with two struggling teams on the court, Thanks to Marstrands goalkeeper Höllviken don’t get to score. Second half ends like the first, close encounters and strong will. 6:30 in the second half the Captain of Höllviken points out road to victory for his team. The last ten minutes Höllviken has a big possession of the ball but Marstrand are not down for counting. The match is going to its end when the captain Filip Lundqvist by a low backhand makes the finalscore 2-1, Höllviken manages to hold this to the end. Overall Höllviken was slightly better but small margins made it. Gothia Innebandy Cup wishes to thank Höllviken IBF to the victory and Marstrand for a very well played tournament.

It finally ended with a Hovslätt win by 4-3

A total of 14 teams from Czech Republic participated in the edition of 2010 and the sport is gaining popularity. Within a year or so, Floor ball will probably be the second largest sport in the Czech Republic.

In the beginning of february this year, the Gothia Cup stab travelled to Prague to visit both football and floorball clubs.The result of these meetings and visits will probably be visible for those who visit us in 2011.

We send our warmest regards to all the people we met in Prague and thank them for their extraordinary hospitality. We are looking forward to see them again at Gothia Innebandy Cup 2011!

At the end of the first period, Färjestaden had the lead by 2-0 and in the beginning of the second they secured the game by scoring their 3-0. Kärra tried very hard to fight back and keep up with the game but it wasn’t enough, Färjestadens got an opportunity and put the fourth and last goal behind Kärra’s goalie.

Färjestaden wins fairly by being the stronger team today. Molly Bernhardsson becomes the most valuable player of this game by contributing, among other things, with two goals.

We’d like to congratulate Färjestadens IBK for their victory and Kärra IBK for a great performance during the tournament.

Gårdrike did not left the gard down and fought on, the same did Färjestanden and scored the second goal. Gårdrike tried very hard but could not do more than scored one more goal 16 seconds before the final signal. Färjestaden won 2-1.

Second period was pretty intense with many shots to score by Malmhaug, without success until it paid off and Malmhaug got their third boll behind Höllviken’s goalie. Höllviken tried really hard to come back but could not even the scores and Malmhaug won the final 3-2.

Most valuable player of the game: Höffer Aves, FBS Bohemians DDM Praha

The final in category B13 was disputed between FBS Bohemian DDM Praha and swedish Hofterup IBF. The Czechs marked the pace pretty early when after minute 4:21 captain Höffer Aves scored the first goal taking the lead. Hofterup stepped up their game  and after 7:01 they evened the game to 1-1 with Daniel Nilsson. After this Bohemians owned the ball many times but Hofterup fought back and the score stayed at 1-1 at the end of period one.

The first 10 minutes of the second period was pretty much owned by the czechs whom by minute 6:06 had scored four goals. After this Hofterup felt it was time for a break and a time out was well need it. This showed to be a good move, after a couple of minutes Hofterup by Christoffer Möller took a shot and scored. 10 minutes to the end of the second period the score was 5-2. Czech captain made sure of a victory and by minute 11:11 he scored the sixth and last goal for the Boheminas.

Vi would like to congratulate FSB Bohemians DDM Praha for the victory in B13 class, also to Hofterup IBF for the great efforts in the tournamnet.

About 10 000 players, leaders and parents visit Gothia Innebandy Cup, this makes the tournament a unique meeting event. Regardless of the results of the games, meetings between people will always be a highlight. This is the beauty of the tournament.

A great remembrance is when in the  opening ceremony the entire audience ”plays” the human Guitar Hero. It was quite a sight to see the whole arena become involved . New audience record was broke on the elite game as well.

For the first time in many, many years we had foreign teams playing in the finals. It is great to see other nations stepping up their games and competing for the best places. Live broadcasting of the finals was also very popular. We had in average 1000 viewers every final.

We want to thank all of you players, leaders, parents, referees and volunteers who made this tournament possible. We hope we can all see each other again next year.

Welcome to Gothenburg in 2011!

The B16 Final between Tatran Stresovices and Sveiva Innebandyklubb had only lasted 77 seconds when Tatran Stresovices Patrik Doza scorde 1-0 for the Czechs. The Norwegians in Sveiva Innebandyklubb started a bit carefully, but had a good opportunity to make the score even in the fourth minute. Thereafter Sveiva owned the ball for a short wile, only to see the Czechs score their second goal through Jiri Kolisko the very next time they touched the ball. The Norwegians fought back and where extremely close to score their first goal, but did not. In the tenth minute the Norwegians forced the Czechs to take two minute penalty, and Sveivas Christoffer Øystad scored almost immediately. However Tatran answered directly, when Jan Wild scored 3-1 behind Sveivas goalkeeper. After that the game evened out a bit and the score remained until the end of the period.

In the second period Tatran looked like winners when Marek Vavra scorde 4-1 after three minutes. But Sveiva answered directly Jesper Solheimsnes kept the game alive by his 2-4 score. After that the Norwegians tried to get closer, but the Czechs was a number to big in this game. Instead Marek Vavra scored another goal for Tatran after ten minutes. Patrik Doza scored his second goal of the evening just a moment later. Sveivas Kjetil Hammerstad tried to keep things interesting by scoring 3-6 after 13 minutes. But this game was the Czechians, and Jan Piskacek underscored that statement by scoring 7-3.

In the end Tatran Stresovice was victorious and won by 7-3!

- We have never won a single game in Gothia Innebandy Cup, but we are having lots of fun anyway, team manager Eirik Jacobsen says happily.

What is it that you like so much about Gothia Innebandy Cup, despite of all losses?

- The whole tournament has a very good structure. When you get here everything is already set and it’s just to get started, Eirik explains.

How come you never give up?

- In Norway we are just as good as any team. It’s only when we go here we come across so great opponents. And it’s actually fun for us to take on some bigger opponents once a year.

Is there any game in that you recall in particular from this years tournament?

- The girls game from yesterday was fun. We lost by 1-6, but the girls got their game together in a way they have not been able to earlier. We even scored a goal, Eirik says with emphasis.

Why do you think that the girls in your team chose floorball instead of handball, considered the great popularity of handball among girls in Norway?

- Many of the girls in our team has had floorball as a second hobby beside handball. Then they have  simply changed their mind and chosen floorball just because they like it better.

Sometimes things simply are just that simple.

Yesterdays disco evening was just the beginning. Tonight the dancefloor will be lit in even more different kinds of colours.

- Many youngsters had a lot of fun yesterday, and tonight things will be even better. We’re talking about the final evening of the tournament, so I am sure things will be fantastic tonight, says Mikael Holgersson, responsible of the disco.

It’s time for the very last disco night so don’t miss out on the last chance to dance all your bruises and small wounds from the games away.

In the Intersport tent outside Valhalla there are not only lots of floorball sticks, but also people who can tell us a little bit more about them. Martin Fagerlind, who is one of the experts on floorball sticks in the Intersport tent, says:

- Basically, you choose a blade and a shaft that fits your game, and then we put them together for you.

Martin places the different shafts into three main categories: ”Curve”, ”Bow” and ”Light”.

- They can be called different names depending on fabric, and there are several more variants, but the three I mentioned are the most common, Martin says.

The curve shaft is curved and looks similar to a downhill pole. The blade stays in its ordinary position despite of the curve. The technique makes it easier to shoot harder.

The bow shaft looks like just like a bow and the blade position gets a little bit in front of the shaft, which changes the angle towards the floor. The player gets more ”open face” when shooting, which helps when trying to get up the ball from the ground.

The light shafts are straight and feather light because its built upon a technique that uses less layers of carbon, without loosing its stiffness.

- The stiffness of the shaft is important for the flexibility of the stick, to get as much catapult effect as possible in the shooting moment, Martin explains.

The blades of the floorball stick mainly varies by being more or less carved (or ”bowled”).

- If you’re good at dribbling you might want to use the less carved blades, while those who are skilled at shooting more often uses the blades that are more carved, Martin finishes.

In other words: Curved, bowed or straight and light shafts together with a more or less carved blade is what the players choose between when building their favourite floorball sticks. For the moment that is.

- Evenings like this one are very important in my opinion. One easily get the idea that you already know it all when at home. But when you meet people from other associations, like here, you get a lot of new ideas, Lennart Carlgren from Vara IBK says.

His colleagues, Svante Brink from the same club and Nicklas Carlson from IFK Arboga IBK, agrees.

- We have met earlier at the floorball convent on Rhodos me and Lennart. And earlier tonight I met another colleague I met there. So the pieces are kind of falling into place here I think, Nicklas says.

Magnus Berglund, Jerker Windahl and Jonas Kihlberg from FBC Ängelholm came to Gothenburg with their Boys 12-team mostly in order to have some fun.

- But the players probably wants to win at any price, Magnus says laughing.

Because how important are the results anyway? “Not particularly important” is probably the answer, if you ask one of the players in competition class Boys 11. Just like in the the regular national league standings are not being counted for that certain age group. The important thing is the game and the team spirit.

The picture above shows the game between  Frölunda IBK and IF Marin Väst. The ball goes back and forth over the field and the game more and more becomes something of a floorball artwork with a life of its own. The players become artists, their sticks represents the brushes and the ball creates the contours. The passion for the game and the energy colours the painting and the picture becomes interesting no matter what the players do.

The newly composed referee team Anders Bergström and Kim Alexandersson are watching the game while waiting for their turn.

- That age group does not have any play off. Instead a new group stage draw is created so that the teams gets to face new opponents. Another thing about that age group is that they do not use penalties of any kind. If someone should make a foul the team coach just sits down with the player and talks about what happened, Anders explains.

The game ends happily for both of the teams. What the final score of the game was? Actually I do not remember. But I clearly recall a very funny game with two teams fighting until the last drop.

So who cares about victories and losses, when one can look forward towards the next game instead. And the next scoring. Or perhaps the next save.

Club Gothia Disco will take place in V-hallen at Svenska Mässan, just behind Valhallabadet. And the dance hall is awesome according to Mikael Holgersson, responsible for the disco.

- We have built a large cube that has so called ground support and will be filled with both solid and moving lights. Everything is built on the ground and elevated up in the air. The cube will then be twisted to be given an interesting angle.

The disco is for Gothia Innebandy Cup participants only. But that does not mean that we are talking about some small disco.

- We are aiming for 2000 guests altogether during the two days.

It will be a fine walk to the disco this evening. Partly because the weather is simply fantastic and partly because of the short distance to the disco from Valhalla.

So don’t miss out on the first out of two fine dance evenings. Leave your sticks in the case, bring your dancing shoes and let go to the music. It’s party time!

What does it mean to be responsible for the referees of Gothia Innebandy Cup, Mimmi?

- First of all it is a privilege. We handle notifications from referees from all over the country and organize the referees schedule among other things. It demands lots of groundwork.

What does the sectioning of the referees look like?

- The partition is rather varied in age, but most of the referees are at least 18 years old. Gothia Innebandy Cup uses well experienced referees overall, since the intensity of the games are similar to a World Cup final. Out of 102 referees there are 45 established teams and the number of female referees is 10.

How do you nominate referees for the play off and finals?

- They are being nominated during the tournament. We have people positioned in all the arenas. They study the referees actively during the games. Which referees that have been nominated to take on the finals will be announced at the latest by 6 PM on Tuesday.

What kinds of game situations are particularly hard for the referees?

- It is not about particular game situations as much as the teamwork between the referees. When the teamwork works fine there are rarely any hard game situations. One of the hardest things in a tournament is to stay alert game after game.

Can you see any regularly appearing patterns on the field? And if so, what kinds of fouls are most common in the different age groups?

- The youngest players tend to use their stick a lot, both for high sticking and hitting an opponents stick. The older players tend to force and push their opponents more often.

In what way does Gothia Innebandy Cup distinguish from the regular national league?

- The intensity is completely different. The players and the spectators are more excited and the tournament is well organized. Everybody is having fun and it is great to get together with so many floorball players from all over Sweden and other countries.

Then the game between Pixbo Wallenstam Redfox and Caperiotäby FC took place in the same classical arena. The ovations from the crowd was pouring down all the sections in the arena. The attendance was 9487, which is the biggest attendance ever for a regular season game in Svenska Superligan.

The crowd was already excited during the opening ceremony and the spectators followed every movement on the field. But there were those who was not very impressed by the game.

- The first period was very dull, but they (Pixbo Wallenstam) will probably talk things through to come out as a new team and get back into the game from 0-2, said one of the Gothia Innebandy Cup team leaders after the first period.

But instead Caperiotäby FC scored another goal to increase their lead to 0-3. But after that Pixbo Wallenstam Redfox got started properly enough to score a spectacular goal.

- Peter Runnestigs goal (1-3) was the best thing that happened this evening. A true ”Zorro-goal” (a goal made with extraordinary technique), said the three young Gothia Innebandy Cup-players Isac Lavik, Anton Nordgren and David Mikic from Varbergs IBF.

Moreover the three youngsters was more impressed by the spectacular entrances of the teams. The young players liked the game itself as well, but they also thought that Pixbo Wallenstam was a bit out of shape.

The game finally ended 2-7. Caperiotäby was clearly the better of the two tonight.

But for most of the Gothia Innebandy Cup participants the match result was hardly the most significant matter this evening. Most important was the fellowship. That old cliche will never become too jaded.

The opening ceremony was fast-paced and contained many fine elements. One of the highlights was the reading of the the Gothia Cup-oath. Swedish Naomi Behrane, Norwegian Ingrid Gosh (G16 – Sveiva Innebandyklubb) and German Phillip Weigelt (B14 – Sparkasse WSF) read the oath out load in their four different languages and declared Gothia Innebandy Cup 2010 officially opened.

- I feel more nervous when talking in front of a large crowd then when I am dancing. But I know it is going to be a lot of fun just because of the nervousness, Naomi Bahrane said happily, just a few hours before she read the oath.

The English version of the oath reads:

“As representatives for all the players in this year’s tournament, We promise to respect every individual’s culture and equality. Fair play shall be prevalent in the true spirit of sportsmanship and in honor of our teams and nations. I hereby declare the Gothia Innebandy Cup of 2010 officially opened!”

The game between Pixbo Wallenstam Redfox och Caperiotäby FC of Svenska Superligan started directly after the opening ceremony, at 7:15 PM. The game is being played during time of writing.

- We will only receive three associations here tonight, but some of them comes with a large number of teams, so there will be pretty much to do here anyway, says school host Johan Avesand while helping Ulf Evensen and his club Nor 92 IBK with signing in to Gothia Innebandy Cup (se the picture above).

Johan and his colleague Tobias Stellert are used to work with both the soccer and the floorball version of Gothia Cup. The sports are not that interesting to the school hosts.

- The main thing is the event, says Tobias with emphasis and stands still for a second.

Then he leaves the room with determined steps towards one of the schools corridors. Some new buses are already on their way.

One of the arriving teams are Nor 92 IBK from Nedre Eiker in Norway. The players and leaders of the team arrives shortly after 4 PM at Katrinelundsgymnasiet, after a 380 km long trip.

- The trip went great and without problems. We only stopped once to get something to eat, says Ulf Evensen one of the team managers.

Three teams from Nor 92 IBK are participating in the tournament this year, in the competition classes Boys 12, 14 and 15.

- The interest of Floorball in our club is growing as we speak. Next year we will probably send five or six teams to Gothenburg, Ulf continues.

Ulf also says that most of the players has participated in the tournament before, and that some of the players already has done it as many as four times.

- Our players are not less excited just because they have played here before. This year the twelve year old boys has played against boys at their own age for the first time. So they are really looking forward to play against the good Swedish teams.

The first face off of Gothia Innebandy Cup is getting closer every second, but the Norwegians have other things in mind than thoughts about tactics. The main goal of the evening

- Now we are up and running and we are not even a bit tired. We have made reservations for 70 people at Hard Rock Café. It will be perfect, Ulf says with a smile and disappears up the stairs in Katrinelundsgymnasiet where the members of Nor 92 IBK are gathered.
