SSL final on Saturday for Benjamin: "Fantastic"

Benjamin Schill has won several great titles in the course of just over a year. On Saturday, his biggest game so far in his career awaits.

Pixbo defender Benjamin Schill has since the start of last year won Gothia Cup Innebandy, the U19 World Championship and most recently the national junior championship. On Saturday, the 18-year-old plays the SSL final against Storvreta.
– To be able to play a SSL final with the senior team in my boyhood club is of course something that I have dreamed of my whole life, says Benjamin Schill.

What do you remember from Gothia Cup Innebandy 2023?
– It was fun to be able to play the tournament again after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Many good teams competed, there were many intense matches and the fact that we also managed to win with our B18 team was of course wonderful.

What is your relationship to the tournament and what do you think is the best thing about it?
– I have played the tournament many times and it is just as much fun every year. It's fun to face teams that you don't usually face in your regular series but also to get the chance to play against foreign teams. The best thing about the tournament, I would say, is the setting with everything that happens around the courts and then of course the final in Partille Arena.

Just over a year later, you will play in the SM final with Pixbo. How does it feel and what do you think about your gold chances?
– It feels fantastic and so much fun. Getting to play a SSL final with the senior team in my boyhood club is of course something I've dreamed of all my life. Storvreta that we face is a good team but we are well prepared and will do everything we can to win.

How do you see your development in recent years?
– My development has been influenced by many factors. Partly to get to train with players who are at a higher level and where there is a higher tempo. I have also had coaches and people around floorball who have helped and supported me to be able to develop more. Finally, I have always tried to compete in everything I do, regardless of whether it is on the sidelines or on the field.

What is your role in the team right now?
In the SSL team, I have a role as a defensive player, where I play in four-on-five and five-on-six to close out matches. But I will also contribute in the offensive game with my shot.

What are your dreams and goals in floorball?
– My dreams with floorball are to be able to participate and win a SSL title with Pixbo. My goals with floorball are to become an established defender in SSL and to break into the senior national team in the future.

You recently won gold with the B18 team in the national championship for juniors. Last year, in addition to the Gothia Cup Innebandy title, you were also able to win a World Championship gold medal with the U19 national team. How was it?
– It was a really cool feeling. It's probably the biggest moment in my floorball career so far. Getting to wear the Swedish national team jersey is the most powerful thing you can do.

You have managed a lot in just over a year?
Yes, absolutely, but I take every opportunity I have to win anything I participate in, says Benjamin Schill.

The SS final between Pixbo and Storvreta in Friends Arena starts at 3.15 pm on Saturday. Pixbo has made it to the finals on the women's side as well and will face Team Thorengruppen there at 12.15 pm.
